If you look closely at this photograph you can see three shops. The main two windows were 1 & 2 Eastfield and where the man is standing is 4 Eastfield. There is a door number 3 which is the flat up stairs.
We presume the door at the back was perhaps going into a shared toilet! Just can't work it out!
A really interesting photo ! My interest lies in the fact that my great-great grandparents, James Craig (1835-1910) a draper, and his wife Euphemia, lived at "Eastfield House" (1891, 1901 Censuses) or "Eastfield Cottage" (1881 Census), Joppa, between ca. 1881 and 1910. I still haven't managed to work out which house it was, and if it still stands. The only clue I have is that in the 1901 Census, the order of the houses listed was : 1, 2, 3, 4 Eastfield, "Eastfield House", "Glen Cottage", "Falcon Cottage", 1 Eastfield Villas. "Eastfield House" was listed as having 9 rooms with one or more windows. I have a letter written by a niece of James Craig, in 1898, where she describes the house as "a big house near the golf links and overlooking the sea" Do you have any idea which house it was ? Thanks in advance for any information and congratulations for your beautiful house,

Hi Roderick, if you are still interested as it's been a while! Eastfield House is at number 19, about three doors from the extreme right of the picture, & to the right of the lightest house in that area. I know this as I am sitting in number 19 now, I live there. If you would like further information please let me know.
